Yes! We’ve finally finished something in the last month or so. In any case, since these are the last two episodes, we just decided to offer up the batch immediately. Download the files that you need.

Notice: We renamed some of the older HSOTD BD files as to correctly reflect the shittiness of the Xbox 360 incompatibility of any 1080p content on the Xbox 360. Rest assured, none of the files have changed.

We don’t plan on re-encoding any previous episode. At all. For any other reason. We won’t be posting DDL’s of older episodes.

What’s up, Doc?

OK. Why are we late? Well, let me explain what happened.

My encoding workstation is loaded with a bunch of different encoders, decoders, and media players. Of course, I usually have CoreAVC as my main H264 decoding library—which was probably not a good idea. In general, CoreAVC is a good decoding library to use, especially if you need that type of performance. But, there’s a little known corner-case where CoreAVC will not deblock the image correctly, which will cause the image to appear blocky and banded.

In any case, this means that using CoreAVC to watch our videos—or any videos for that matter—may cause the image quality to appear blocky and banded.

By “banded,” I mean that color gradients won’t appear gradual; they will appear in bands, groups of large pixels that will be the same color, but whose neighbors will contrast starkly.

Observe

Here are two screen shots: one from CoreAVC and the other from FFDShow Tryouts. If you enlarge the pictures, you’ll notice that CoreAVC does a lousy job of deblocking the gradients in the background.
