The World God Only Knows S2 Batch

I’m not gonna lie. This episode was a fuckin’ beast. No joke.

I now know why Chihiro took so much time in releasing this episode. This is one of the most “sign-hellish” episodes in the entire series. The script has ~612 lines. To put it into perspective, normal anime episodes have approximately 300-400 lines of dialog. In contrast, this episode had approximately ~259 lines of just pure signage. That’s some fucked up shit.

I had to remove some of the signs, because it was just total overkill.

Episode 12 is in the batch.

[Helios Edit 5/12/2011 @ 10:52 EST]: The preview subs are approximately 2 frames behind or so. OH WELL.

Oh man, the Virtual Boy brings back memories; Nintendo’s first serious attempt at 3D gaming. And then it crashed and burned. Fast-forward approximately 15 years later, and we have Nvidia trying to do the same thing with “3D Vision” and 3D movies.

Apparently, the reason why 3D movies are coming back is to combat camripping. Not sure if that’s true or not.

I personally hate 3D stuff.

Where do I even begin with this episode? The raws out there for this episode all look like dog shit because half of the episode is dark as hell. We had to filter the shit out of it in order to get it looking decent.

Encoder’s Log

Due to the dark scenes in this episode, we had to crank up the aq-strength and CRF in order to preserve any gradients and details. But, we didn’t want to make the file size absurdly large, so we split the file into ten different sections and encoded all of them separately. The total file size is 544 megabytes, but if we were to encode the entire episode with the high quality settings that we used to preserve the dark scenes, the total file size would have been 1,341 megabytes. That’s a 60% reduction in file size for the same exact quality. I don’t think it gets any better than that.
